Concept and Process

We designed the website for Francisca Carvalho, a visual artist whose practice bridges contemporary art and material research. Her work unfolds through installations, paintings, and experimental processes centered on natural dyeing, where she develops her own pigments and explores the transformation of organic matter into color, shapes and texture.

The website brings together a curated selection of exhibitions and artworks, alongside a dedicated section focused on her ongoing research into natural dyeing techniques. This space functions as both archive and laboratory - hosting images, videos, texts, and process documentation that reveal the layered and evolving nature of her practice.

Visually, the design reflects this intersection between tradition and experimentation. A serif typeface and a monochromatic palette ground the interface in a sense of timelessness, while the use of forest green tones and a monospace font introduces a contemporary, process-driven sensibility. This dialogue between classical and technical elements mirrors Francisca's own balance between craft and investigation.

The website offers a contemplative and tactile experience, where structure and material coexist. Each page unfolds with quiet rhythm, inviting viewers to move between finished works and the intimate gestures of making, and revealing the meditative precision and poetic materiality that define her practice.
